Aluminum Extrusions

Aluminum Extrusions for every application; from automotive trim to structural components, lighting fixtures, windows, doors and more.

Aluminum is one of the most common elements on earth, and one of the most versatile.  It is readily recycled, non-toxic, lightweight (at about 1/3 the weight of steel), corrosion resistant, non-magnetic, and with the right alloying elements, very tough.  Aluminum can be polished or buffed to a mirror-like finish and then clear anodized for lasting beauty.  It can also be painted or anodized in just about any color imaginable.

Aluminum is easy to machine and bend, and extrudes into precision shapes.  Everyone is familiar with round aluminum tubing, which exists almost everywhere in the form of handrails.  Other common shapes include angles, channels, flat bars, T-bars and Z-bars, I-beams, and square or rectangular tubes.  But it is most versatile in being extruded into custom shapes, and is being used in such applications as automotive, aerospace, and military, building and construction, lighting, electronics, consumer durables, and many other engineered products.

Elixir Industries uses the 6000 series of alloys for extrusion, the most common being 6061 and 6063.  The general specifications for this process include ASTM B221 and AMS-QQ-A-200/8 (or AMS-QQ-A-200/9 for 6063).  Other alloys regularly extruded include 6005, 6060, 6463 and a few others.  The vast majority of our aluminum is mined, smelted and cast in the United States before arriving at Elixir for extruding.  For some customers, such as for those seeking “Green” assurances, we have suppliers that can furnish recycled aluminum billet for extruding.

Elixir Industries uses tempering ovens to achieve the desired hardness and other performance characteristics that many customers require.  Some of those choices would include T4, T5, and T6, but other temper categories are possible with the combinations of water quenching, oven temperature, time at temperature and stretching (or work-hardening) that can be employed.  And, of course, we use appropriate Quality Control techniques to verify these requirements to the strictest of standards.

Recycled aluminum does not lend itself to the strictest of tempering requirements, nor does it generally yield the best appearance, so please consult with us before specifying recycled content for your project.
